The night before....
Okay, so I'm about to get eyes lasered. Or to give it the correct medical term...well I don't really know what it is but you know what I mean!
A bit of background...
I've needed glasses since I was in Form 4 (about 14 years old). I remember sitting in a science class at the back of the room and not being able to see the board. I started out with -1.00 and tonight I sitting on about -2.00 (age 35). I've been at this power for a good few years.
I wear contact lenses alot. I use Ciba Vision Focus Dailys. They are daily disposable lenses. I play alot of sport so not having glasses is a priority to me. I also like to surf in the summer and tend to lose contacts when I get hammers by the crazy two foot surf....
I first thought seriously about getting laser surgery in 2002. I found that I couldn't wear contacts for long periods with them really drying out (i probably wore them longer than I should have). They were also not really that confortable.
I went to the Eye Institute here in Auckland NZ and got a consultation. I can't remember the real reason why but I didn't go through with it in the end. I suspect the cost was a big factor.
Fast forward to today and what has changed? Nothing really but sometimes I just need a little time to think about things...in this case 4 years! I went back for another consultation where they rechecked everything and then booked a time on the spot; best not to think about it this time!
I'm not feeling to nervous or anything. The main thing is that I hope that it all works out fine and I'm not one of the 1% of people who have "complications".....
So what am I hoping to get out of this?

So what am I hoping to get out of this?
- I'm hoping for is better vision at night. I have been told that often this ISN'T the case but my slightly underpowered contacts might have something to do with it.
- Being able to open my eyes underwater. When I'm getting smashed under waves I'd like to be able to open my eyes! I'm not sure what I'm going to see but I'm about to find out
- Steve Austin's bionic vision. Okay, maybe not quite that extreme but I hope to have sharper vision that I currently have using my contacts. There is some billboards across from my work that I've been testing out so I'll test them again on Monday.
